It worked for me. Click on the exact name that was listed in the icon's location information (the one I suggested you write down). Refresh the desktop and see if you can now delete them.

That does not sound like a running program to me. Doing a re-install of Windows is a little drastic to cure this otherwise benign problem. saved me a nervous breakdown.
