In that case I suggest to reset your BIOS to it's defaults - maybe some setting was accidentally changed or is corrupted causing your SATA controller to be disabled. You could also put the hard drive on the secondary IDE port as Master and set the optical drive to slave on the same cable to see if Windows 98 recognizes
