Of cause this crap didn't work.
My bogus files were on external drive, and this worked simply and beautifully, since I had been unable to reproduce file / folder names (hieroglyphics) from CMD line. I don't know what the "/a" option is supposed to do without additional specifiers, but it worked for this case.@Anurag, in step 1, to cd to your desktop, just type "cd Close and Explorer window and re-open.
