There's software out there that can alleviate the profile deletion tedium; however, I haven't used these tools so I can't really talk about it from experience. I tried highlighting the other accounts and the option to delete was not greyed out. Here you can see it matches the account I want to remove so I can safely delete this key by right clicking the [SID] in the left pane and choosing Delete. Ignore that the pack is terminal services centric, the utility works fine on desktop editions. After installing the tool and waiting couple of minutes the problem was fixed! "Account Unknown" users could be deleted from System Properties -> User Profiles and the actually the tool created
