What made this difficult was that the error messages did not provide much of a clue as to what the actual problem was. There were very helpful and followed up many times with me, even after the problems were solved. The only suggestion I have to speed up the solution is to right click the service to make it manual, reboot, then delete the folder. Whenever I click on “check updates” it used to display a mesaage "Windows Service is not running…u may need to restart your computer". I had a few similar problems though not exactly like yours. In all other editions of Windows, click Start and type in CMD; wait for the CMD.EXE or "Command Prompt" to appear in the search list, then right click over top of Mkae sure your firewall isn't blocking them either.I would always recommend using the Custom Install option - you can read the description of each patch and decide whether to accept it.

In the resulting System Restore wizard, select a restore point dated before the first failed update (you may need to check Show more restore points). Secunia will flag these but so long as you have a later one with the green tick, you can ignore them. and type CMD and press enter - nb. Nice work!
